  • Teamsters understand the value in union membership. Higher pay, better benefits, and a greater voice in the workplace are standards set by union members that won’t be given up without a fight, even after the Supreme Court’s decision in the “Janus v. AFSCME” case.

    While it is true that this ruling may create temporary roadblocks, public employees throughout the United States need to remain unified. We cannot allow the progress working people have made in union to be slowed down because of lawsuits that disregard the value of public employees.

    The Janus decision came about because anti-employee forces spent millions of dollars on lobbying and court challenges for over 40 years. Attacks from these outside groups, backed by secret donors, seek to eliminate the freedom of public employees to negotiate with their employer over the value of their work.

    Many Teamster members around the country have held conversations with their co-workers about the impact of the Supreme Court decision to reinforce the value of remaining unified. Whether at the worksite or at the ballot box, members are fighting back against these attacks.

    Public sector Teamsters have made it their career to serve their country and community, and any attempt to take away their freedom to join together is an attack on those who are the foundation of America.

    Our middle class was built by everyday working people, standing together in union. The Teamsters honor that history by continuing the fight to give working people the promise of the American dream.

    That won’t end with the Janus decision. The Teamsters will continue to organize, mobilize, and do whatever is necessary to achieve prosperity through collective action.

At 5:11 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2020, Local members responded to a hazardous materials incident at the Cook Creek Pool, located at 8711 Lone Tree Parkway after workers at the facility reported a muriatic acid leak. When members arrived 4 minutes later, an active acid leak was observed on the southwest side of the building.

At 12:39 on Sunday May 31st, Local members responded to a condominium fire at 8438 Thunder Ridge Way in Highlands Ranch. The 911 caller told dispatchers a fire extinguisher had been used and the fire was still spreading. When members arrived, they confirmed that a fire was burning in a second-floor unit and that all residents were outside.

At 7:31 p.m. on Sunday, May 10th Local members were dispatched to investigate a water problem near Colorado Boulevard. and Links Parkway in Centennial. As members approached the scene, turbulent debris filled water was observed flowing over Colorado Blvd. The source was a 12-inch diameter water main break in front of 4211 Links Parkway.

At 6:40 p.m. on Sunday, May 10th Local members responded to a vegetation fire near the Cherry Creek Trail, east of the 7900 block of South Kittredge Way. Smoke was widely visible and when members arrived, they found numerous wood logs burning and a slow moving grass fire. Members prevented the fire from spreading any further and they spent over 2 hours extinguishing hot spots.

Bethlehem Fire Local 735 will be hosting the 2020 Northeast IAFF Memorial Golf Tournament.  This will be the 19th year for this annual event. This year’s tournament will at the Riverview Country Club 1 Riverview Place Easton, PA 18040   It is a Captain and Crew format with a shotgun start at 10am.  Registration is $95pp/$380per team.

SAFER Application Period Now Open

The Fiscal Year 2019 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) application period is  now open. The application deadline is Friday, May 15, 2020, at 5:00 p.m. (ET). There is $350 million available in federal grants to add fire fighters to departments in need. Career, combination and volunteer fire departments are eligible to apply. I am confident that you all have heard On May 16, 2020 230 LAFD Firefighters responded to a structure fire in downtown Los Angeles.  Soon after arrival the world watched 11 of our Firefighters from Fire Station 9 engulfed in flames when a large explosion occurred.  Fortunately, these Firefighters were able to escape, although each one of them suffered burns of various degrees.

Press Release Wednesday 5/13 at 9:50 PM the Norwalk Fire Department responded to a structure fire on West Couch St. The fire involved the kitchen and the attic space above. The fire was extinguished and brought under control within 15 minutes of the fire department arrival. There were no injuries. Two occupants were displaced.
