  • Teamsters understand the value in union membership. Higher pay, better benefits, and a greater voice in the workplace are standards set by union members that won’t be given up without a fight, even after the Supreme Court’s decision in the “Janus v. AFSCME” case.

    While it is true that this ruling may create temporary roadblocks, public employees throughout the United States need to remain unified. We cannot allow the progress working people have made in union to be slowed down because of lawsuits that disregard the value of public employees.

    The Janus decision came about because anti-employee forces spent millions of dollars on lobbying and court challenges for over 40 years. Attacks from these outside groups, backed by secret donors, seek to eliminate the freedom of public employees to negotiate with their employer over the value of their work.

    Many Teamster members around the country have held conversations with their co-workers about the impact of the Supreme Court decision to reinforce the value of remaining unified. Whether at the worksite or at the ballot box, members are fighting back against these attacks.

    Public sector Teamsters have made it their career to serve their country and community, and any attempt to take away their freedom to join together is an attack on those who are the foundation of America.

    Our middle class was built by everyday working people, standing together in union. The Teamsters honor that history by continuing the fight to give working people the promise of the American dream.

    That won’t end with the Janus decision. The Teamsters will continue to organize, mobilize, and do whatever is necessary to achieve prosperity through collective action.

In half of reported home fires in which smoke alarms were present but did not operate, the batteries had been removed or the alarm was disconnected due to dead battery alerts or nuisance alarms. Working smoke alarms decrease the risk of dying in reported home fires by nearly half according to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

Norwalk fire responded to a chimney fire at 33 Hilltop.  The fire extended to the wooded chimney enclosure. FD dismantled the enclosure and extinguished the fire.

W. Ponds Circle Structure Fire

On Thursday October 15, 2020 at 10:30 a.m., Local Members responded to a fire inside a condominium on W. Ponds Circle in Unincorporated Arapahoe County. Initial reports stated a fire started in the bathroom of the home and may have extended into the attic space. When members from Engine 13 arrived on scene, they could not see any active fire from the outside of the condo.

At 11:54 p.m. on Saturday October 10, 2020, Local members responded to a report of a car crash into a building on E. Hampden Ave. in Cherry Hills Village. When members arrived on scene, they found a car had gone off the roadway and crashed into a Caribou Coffee store. Crews extricated the driver inside the vehicle and took that person to the hospital in critical condition.

A marathon of hose. 26.2 miles. 138,435 feet. Stretched by the crew of Engine 33 in a self-challenge to be better at their job. What started as a funny idea in January became a reality by October. They did it. And they’re still going. 10 months of walking, crawling and running with hose during a variety of basic, advanced and unheard-of scenarios.
DAD's Landfill Brush Fire

At 12:06 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2020, Local members responded to a brush fire at the Denver Arapahoe Disposal Site landfill, located at 3500 S. Gun Club Road. An electrical problem on a power pole sparked a small grass fire that quickly grew to over an acre. Workers at the facility used fire extinguishers and heavy equipment including water tenders and tractors to fight the fire.

The building was evacuated, a unified command was established, Hazardous Materials Technicians went through a medical status check and geared up to go inside.

Norwalk Fire Department Press Release October 15, 2020 Norwalk Firefighters responded to an apartment fire this morning at the Avalon Apartments, 26 Belden Avenue. The reported fire came in along with the building alarm at 9:12 am.  Firefighters made their way to apartment 1103 and found a small fire in the master bedroom of the 2 bedroom apartment.
